A Greek table - full of expectations!



- så her vil jeg dele mine erfaringer etter over 30 års liv på Skopelos!
- so here I will share my experiences with Greek food
after been living more than 30 years on Skopelos!

Hvilken gresk mat er det du lengter mest etter?
Jobbet av og til for Gulliver i Norge og ganske raskt var det;
What is the Greek food you miss most?
When I worked some winters in Norway it was;

Fersk nyyydelig vårsalat - enklere kan det ikke gjøres!
Fresh delishious spring-salad - it can not be done easier!

Jeg sitter her en regnful
januar søndag og ser utover "mitt" øyrike.
Jeg har god tid, for min hund sover og vil ikke
gå tur i regnet. Jeg har lenge tenkt at jeg må 
oppdatere min matside, men du vet hvordan
tiden bare fly vekk!
Men NÅ skal jeg!

Øverste foto er av et typisk gresk tavernabord, 
spiller ingen rolle hvor det er, - det kan være hvor som helst i Hellas! Det er et bord som 
skaper forventninger, på en måte!
Du setter deg ned og lurer på hva du skal spise?

 

I am sitting here a rainy January
Sunday and looks of to the sea.
I have plenty of time, my dog sleeps and do not
want to walk in the rain. I have thought of
updating my food page for a long time,
but you know "Time is flying away"!
Anyway I do it now!

Top photo is a typical Greek taverna table,
does not matter where it is, - it could have
been anywhere in Greece! It is a table
who creates expectations, in a way.
You sit down and wonder what to eat?


Hva jeg mener med det?
Jo, at prøv en "mezè" - det er når grekerene bare 
bestiller ouzo og/eller tziporou, med hver lille 
flaske/karaffel kommer en asjett med "små-mat",
'ofte sjømat og mye salat og grønnsaker.
MEN man kan si fra hva man helst ikke vil ha.
Jeg pleier å si at jeg ikke vil ha salte retter!

MEN igjen, det er ikke alle steder man får mezè,
men da tar man menyen og bestiller en hel masse 
forretter istedenfor salat og hovedrett.
Hvis servitøren kan sin jobb kan man
spørre om anbefalinger!

Enda et MEN, jeg klarer å få mezè uten ouzo
men dessverre er det ikke alltid lett.

 

What I mean with that?
Yes, that you have to try a "meze" - that is when
the Greeks just orders ouzo and/or tziporou,
and with every small bottle/carafe comes a plate
with "finger-food", often seafood and lots of
salads and veggies. BUT one can tell what
one does not want. I always say NO salt, please!

BUT again, it is not everywhere you get a mezè,
then you just selected lots of starters that you
share and no main dish. If the waiter is good
at his job he will guide you. Keep in mind that
this makes it exciting, you do not know
what you will be eating!

Another BUT, I manages to get mezè without
ouzo but that is not always easy.

The Onion Pie - "Kremidòpita"
Skopelos Ostepai men jeg foretrekker
Løkpaien - "Kremid`åpita"

Hva er "råfåss" på norsk,
- sikkert er at det er en stygg u-fisk med stort hode,
som er fast i fisken og smaker nyyydelig!!!


"Jaourti" Special
Yogurt with fresh fruits, honey & nuts,
a whole meal in it self!
Yogurt med frisk frukt, honning og nøtter,
et helt måltid!


Jeg har masse mer om mat,
- det kommer etter hvert!
