Days of Kindness

Greece is a good place
to look at the moon, isn't it
You can read by moonlight
You can read on the terrace
You can see a face
as you saw it when you were young
There was good light then
oil lamps and candles
that floated on a cork in olive oil
What I loved in my old life
I haven't forgotten
It lives in my spine
Marianne and the child
The days of kindness
It rises in my spine
and it manifests as tears
I pray that loving memory
exists for them too
the precious ones I overthrew
for an education in the world

                                    Leonard Cohen, Hydra 1985

So long Marianne

 Song long Marianne
- I am reading about Marianne Ihlen (b.1935) (got it for Christmas from a good friend) who moved to Hydra in the sixties, with Axel Jensen a Norwegian writer, when she was 22 years old and more or less innocent. After a long while she meets Leonard Cohen, and had a relationship with him - and that's how fare I have got! Hydra in the sixties and much more!

The song that Leonard wrote to her
is down on this page;

Grønnsaks saganaki;

Vegetable saganaki;
Fry light different cubes, like a finger tip, of vegetables, as paprika, squash, tomatoes, spring onion, garlic. Later add salt, mushrooms, thyme and a dash of wine.
Put it over in an over proof dish, pull very fine stripes of kasseri cheese over it, or a cheese who melts, and in to the warm oven until it gets a golden top.
Leave it a few minutes before serving.
Delicious - they said on TV!

Some Greek words, they fascinate me, - also some words that I recognize but did not know the meaning of. I have always tried to read signs on the road and on shops. The last word down here I have seen often, but did never bother to look it up!
(My car never needed "antalaktika"
eller er det "adalaktika"?
Another book says "andalaktika")
- ti na kanomai?
